NVQ Training
NVQ training (National Vocational Qualification) is a work-based qualification which recognises the skills and knowledge a person needs to do a job. The candidate needs to demonstrate and prove their competency within their chosen role or career path and have at least 6 months experience.
Turn Your Red Card To Blue.
Gaining the relevant S/NVQ will allow you to progress through the CPCS and NPORS/CSCS scheme. Enabling candidates to replace “Red Trained Operator card” with the “Blue Competent Operator card”. However, this needs to be carried out within the 2 year life of the card.
As an approved centre, Vally Plant Training are able to offer the S/NVQ qualifications in Plant operations level 2, site supervisor level 3 and the management of lifting operations level 5. Furthermore, we are also an SQA National Qualification approved centre.
The timescale required to complete the S/NVQ varies from 1 day to 10 weeks, during which time you will have the time to gather the relevant evidence required to achieve the relevant S/NVQ.

Routes
OSAT (On Site Assessment And Training) – Workplace evidence is the primary source for demonstrating the candidate’s ability to meet the National Occupational Standards for skilled workers at the NVQ Level required. Evidence can include:
- Observation of performance by Vally Plant Training’s assessor in your workplace
- Witness testimony by an expert witness
- Professional discussion with the assessor
- Knowledge and understanding This states what you must know and understand, and how this knowledge applies to your jobs.
All of these methods are mandated and are in addition to other forms of evidence.
Any submitted evidence must support the candidate’s demonstration of skills, knowledge and understanding attained through performance in the workplace for at least 6 months.
Routes for Demonstrating Competence
This encapsulates the various methods (Observation, Witness Statement, Professional Discussion, and Knowledge Base Question) through which candidates can demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Professional Discussion
- The candidate conducts a 1-to-1 discussion along with an assessor, during which they discuss how they have met the required relevant standards. Discussing both the work they have undertaken and the working methods used to carry out the work.
